After School Arts

Registration for Winter 2022 After School Arts is not yet open but will open within the next week.

After School Arts: Puppet Theater (K-5th grade) 

When: Wednesdays 4:00-5:30pm 

Session 1: January 5th-February 2nd; Session 2: February 9th - March 2nd

Where: Arts West

Description:
Puppetry is an art medium born from the story-telling traditions of many cultures. In this course we will explore the basic tenets of puppetry, create our own puppet creations, and practice acting out stories with puppets!
3:45-4:15pm: Students arrive / Snack Time (students bring their own snack)
4:15-5:15pm: Class Time
5:15-5:30: Wind Down, Cleanup & Pick up time

About the Instructor:
April Felipe is a professional ceramic artist with an MFA in Ceramics from Ohio University. She has decades of experience teaching classes, at camps, and outreach opportunities for children in the visual arts. She brings a wealth of knowledge and delightful, energetic sense of humor to her classroom.

After School Arts: Ceramics (K-5th)

When:  Thursdays 4:00-5:30pm

Session 1: January 6th-February 3rd; Session 2: February 10th-March 3rd

Where: Arts West

In Ceramics class, students will get a chance to experience different techniques to create art with clay.

Elementary Student Schedule:
3:45-4:15pm: Students arrive / Snack Time (students bring their own snack)
4:15-5:15pm: Class Time
5:15-5:30: Wind Down, Cleanup & Pick up time

After School Arts: Costume Art (K-5th grade)

When:  Fridays 4:00-5:30pm

Session 1: January 7th-February 4th; Session 2: February 11th-March 4th

Where: Arts West

Description:
In this unique art class, students will have the opportunity to design their own wearable costume pieces. Projects will include mask making, headpieces, pins and character driven pieces.

After School Arts: Music (K-5th)

When: Tuesdays, 4:00-5:30pm

Session 1: January 4th-February 1st; Session 2: February 8th-March 1st

Description: Sing together, play rhythm games, and make music! We'll be having fun with music, exploring different instruments, and making up some of our own songs too.

About the Instructor: Megan Bee is an award-winning singer-songwriter who performs all over the country and lives in Athens, Ohio. She has over 15 years’ experience working with kids through library programs, environmental education, school residencies, songwriting workshops, and various summer camps. She loves watching birds, laughing, riding bikes, and helping people write songs and play music.

Paint and Prints (K-5th)

When: Mondays 4:00-5:30pm

Where: Arts West

Session 1: January 10th-January 31st; Session 2: February 7th-February 28th

After School Arts: Deep Dive Drawing (6-8th grade)

When:  Tuesdays 3:00-5:30pm

Session 1: January 4th-February 1st; Session 2: February 8th-March 1st

Where: Arts West

Description:
In this drawing focused art class, students will have the opportunity to develop their skills. Traditional techniques, as well as lessons geared towards students focusing on their own style and interests will be taught. This is a great class for students who wish to further their art skills beyond a typical school setting!

Middle School Student Schedule:
2:45-3:00pm: students arrive
3:00-3:30pm: Snack Time / Hang Out (students bring their own snack)
3:30-5:00: Lesson Time (Free draw time available)
5:00-5:30: Wind Down, Cleanup & Departure time

Description:

In Ceramics class, students will get a chance to experience different techniques to create art with clay.***Please Note That Middle School Ceramics Students will have “Open Studio” class time along with their weekly scheduled project. This will allow them to make their own creations in addition to structured projects.
