Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps
The following maps show the changes to the floodplain in City of Athens from the effective flood hazard maps to the preliminary flood hazard maps. The updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps, once official, will add some buildings to the flood plain and delete others. These changes will require some property owners to purchase flood insurance coverage that was not required before and other property owners may have the opportunity to stop purchasing flood insurance. Please contact city planner Paul Logue at 592-3338 or plogue@ci.athens.oh.us if you would like to review additional maps.
Athens City Planner Paul Logue holds a Master's Degree in City and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Ohio University.
The city planner addresses issues as they relate to land use, transportation, and the built environment within the City of Athens. Among other things, the planner uses the city's comprehensive plan Athens 2020: Design for the Future to help make decisions for development and land use issues. The Athens city comprehensive plan can be viewed here: Athens Comprehensive Plan
The city planner also is the starting point for development projects within the City of Athens. The Service-Safety Director, Zoning Administrator, and Athens City Planning Commission are also instrumental in working with developers. The planner will provide guidance to developers on following the City's Title 41 Site Plan Review process, PUD, and subdivision regulations.
