Deputy Service Safety Director
Summary
The assistant service safety director assists the service safety director in the functions of the director's office. The position coordinates projects and administrative tasks with city departments and outside agencies.

Duties
  • Investigating complaints and providing information to the mayor, service safety director and council concerning projects, grants, contracts, easements and other issues requested
  • Maintaining project spreadsheets to provide breakdown of project costs and other pertinent project information
  • May authorize payment vouchers
  • Reviewing bid documents for compliance with grant requirements
  • Coordinating projects with engineers, contractors, and staff
  • Serving as liaison with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Development in the absence of the service safety director
  • Coordinating street closings for maintenance work and other utility company work; serving as liaison with affected departments and staff; preparing news releases as needed for the same
  • Approving street closures, sidewalk closures and alley closures for work performed in the city rights of way
  • Approving dumpster placements on city rights of way
  • Coordinating improvements in software, hardware and related communications support among departments and the systems administrator
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of resources for special city events
  • Performing regular inspections of the city for problem areas
  • Supervising the Utilities Billing Office and preparing monthly reports
  • Overseeing the operation of the city parking garage and parking enforcement
 
Other Responsibilities
  • Coordinating property insurance updates
  • Submitting insurance claims, when necessary
  • Maintaining the city's tree program: coordinating in-house tree pruning and removal, contracting tree pruning and removal, utility line clearance and tree planting
  • Working closely with the Shade Tree Commission
  • Preparing the annual Tree City USA application
  • Seeking grant opportunities for right of way tree plantings
  • Maintaining certification as a Certified Arborist
  • Responsible for pesticide / herbicide application in the city
  • Maintaining Commercial Applicator license
  • Recording pesticide / herbicide applications
  • Working with the Ohio Department of Agriculture for routine inspections of application records
  • Assisting with the upkeep of the city's Geographic Information System (GIS)
  • Using GIS to plan street closures, special events, property maps and other mapping opportunities
  • Serving as the fleet manager for the city by tracking purchases / sales / transfers of vehicles and implementing the Green Fleet ordinance
  • Assisting in the development and usage of social networking sites (Twitter / Facebook) and other alternative communication forums
