The United States Geological Survey (USGS) provides real-time data for rivers in the U.S. This site gives new data approximately every 4 hours. Data provided are the gauge height of the water in the Hocking River, and the discharge, or amount of water flowing in the river, in cubic feet per second.

Experimental Athens County CoCoRaHS/IFLOWS mapping interface
CoCoRaHS is a grassroots volunteer network of backyard weather observers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow) in Athens County. The Athens CoCoRaHS effort began in 2009 and is a part of a nationwide collaborative effort between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and local volunteers to provide quality data for natural resource, education, and research applications. The national CoCoRaHS website can be found HERE.

Flooding information from websites from other cities
Roseville, CA. Roseville, CA has the best rating in the nation in the CRS. They are a model community for floodplain management.
King County, WA. King County has one of the best CRS ratings in the country. They are similar to Athens in that infrastructure and many businesses are located on the floodplain. They recently released a study that determined the affects of flooding on the local economy.
Tulsa, OK. Tulsa, OK also has one of the best CRS ratings in the country. Tulsa's flooding experiences are different from Athens, as flash flooding is a major issue in Tulsa but not in Athens. However, Tulsa's site does include excellent summaries, including: what to tell children about flooding, how to protect your property from flooding, what to do before and after flood watches, flood warnings, and actual floods.
