Engineering and Public Works

The City of Athens Department of Engineering and Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of city utilities such as roads, sewer and water systems, and traffic signals. The department consists of four main divisions: Water, Sewer, Street Maintenance, and Internal Service. Each section is responsible for maintaining various aspects of city utilities and ensuring public safety through efficient operation of these utilities.
Andy Stone, Director
Andrew Stone is a registered professional engineer and a registered surveyor intern in the State of Ohio, with a degree in civil engineering from the Ohio State University. He has been with the city since November of 2003. His professional background is as an engineer officer with the United States Army, and is currently a major in the Ohio Army National Guard.
Our Department Mission Statement
The City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department conducts all-season water treatment, waste-water treatment, and maintenance of rights-of-way, water lines, and sewer lines inside the corporation limit in order to provide potable water, a cleaner environment, safe transportation, and move commerce for the Athens citizenry.

Directions to our location:
From US 33/50, take the Richland Ave./682 Exit and turn right to cross the bridge over the Hocking. At the next intersection, turn left onto S. Shafer St. At the intersection with W. State Street, turn left again and make the next right onto Central Avenue. From there, turn left onto Clarke and right onto Curran Drive. Guest parking is available at the end of the street.
