Arts West Programs
ARTS/West serves more than 21,000 community members – patrons and artists – annually, with workshops, classes, concerts, exhibitions, and meetings in our performance space and four conference rooms. Each year, ARTS/West provides space and administrative assistance for events and exhibitions by six theater companies, two music education groups, an arts education group, visual artists, musicians, a new play festival, a community art festival, and an ever-growing list of other programs and partner organizations. There's always something new going on at ARTS/West – in 2007 alone we hosted more than 420 arts events (not including classes and workshops) – and the list just keeps getting longer!
As a component of the City of Athens Public Performance Arts Program, ARTS/West functions in accordance with the tenets of the Public Performance Arts Policy and Procedures adapted by Athens City Council in May 2005. The objectives of the Public Performing Arts Program are to increase public performance opportunities for performance artists and technicians who live or work in and around Athens, to encourage public participation and interaction within public spaces, to enhance the existing cultural resources and encourage new opportunities, and to strive for artistic diversity, reflecting the social, ethnic and cultural fabric of the city.
